Ebby: Last week while out shopping, I came across a wonderful sale in which the store had all of their makeup products marked down to 75% off. The brands included Maybelline, Covergirl, NYX, L’Oreal and all of the other like drugstore labels. I used the sale as an opportunity to stock pile on my favorite makeup items, especially grabbing all of the lipsticks and glosses that I found to be pretty. One of the challenges that I am beginning to face when shopping for new lipstick shades is thinking that I have found the perfect color for myself while in the store, but as soon as I get home to try it on, it just doesn’t seem to mesh well with my skin tone. Often times I think some shades make me look more clownish than pretty. These colors do vary slightly from what I have been used to wearing so I am very pleased that I found them, and I think they can also work well for any woman of color with my complexion.
I feel like as a darker skin woman, I am limited to only wearing shades that have tints of brown, burgundy, or mauve, but there are times that I would like to step-out wearing other bold and bright colors. It has just been so hard to pull it off without feeling like I have to be professionally made-up as if I’m doing a commercial photo shoot. The lipstick colors that I found last week however seem to compliment my skin tone very well.
Although these are a few of my new favorite shades that I feel bring out my skin’s radiance, as my sister Tiffy mentioned in her post, These Lips Don’t Lie, I think it is also important for women of all skin tones to wear the colors that make them happy no matter what anyone has to say about it.
So may you always be beautiful and be bold in the skin you’re in.
