Ebby: Last week while out shopping, I came across a wonderful sale in which the store had all of their makeup products marked down to 75% off. The brands included Maybelline, Covergirl, NYX, L’Oreal and all of the other like drugstore labels. I used the sale as an opportunity to stock pile on my favorite makeup items, especially grabbing all of the lipsticks and glosses that I found to be pretty.

One of the challenges that I am beginning to face when shopping for new lipstick shades is thinking that I have found the perfect color for myself while in the store, but as soon as I get home to try it on, it just doesn’t seem to mesh well with my skin tone. Often times I think some shades make me look more clownish than pretty. These colors do vary slightly from what I have been used to wearing so I am very pleased that I found them, and I think they can also work well for any woman of color with my complexion.

I feel like as a darker skin woman, I am limited to only wearing shades that have tints of brown, burgundy, or mauve, but there are times that I would like to step-out wearing other bold and bright colors. It has just been so hard to pull it off without feeling like I have to be professionally made-up as if I’m doing a commercial photo shoot. The lipstick colors that I found last week however seem to compliment my skin tone very well.

Although these are a few of my new favorite shades that I feel bring out my skin’s radiance, as my sister Tiffy mentioned in her post, These Lips Don’t Lie, I think it is also important for women of all skin tones to wear the colors that make them happy no matter what anyone has to say about it.
